Nicole Kalms is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Art Design and Architecture founding director of the Monash University XYX Lab which leads national and international research in Gender and Place. Kalms’ research examines digital, experiential, political and material interventions to articulate the shared and conflicted struggles of women and girls internationally. Her praxis repositions design as a strategic tool for challenging gender inequity. Her recent research has focused on public transport spaces for women and girls, gender-sensitive CPTED and the use of participatory co-design to challenge gender-neutral urban policy.
Jess Berry is Associate Professor Design History and Theory at Monash University and Senior Researcher with the XYX Lab. Her research focuses on how gender identities and bodies are mediated by, and through, spatial practices--including fashion, architecture and the interior. Recent publications include the monograph Cinematic Style: Fashion, Architecture and Interior Design on Film (Bloomsbury 2022) and the co-edited volume Contentious Cities: Design and the Gendered Production of Space (Routledge 2021).

Please note, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, our 8906QCA class tomorrow, which was to be held in S07 1.23 from 9.00 am - 3.15 pm, is now cancelled.
Instead, all speakers will provide online resources which will be made available within the week on the course site for our newest QCA researchers. I look forward to sharing these resources with you.

These are unprecedented circumstances and we appreciate your understanding as we work together to find the best solutions.
