Associate Professor Nicole Kalms will discuss the research of the Monash XYX Lab. Founded in 2016, the XYX Lab is a team of experienced design researchers exploring gender-sensitive design practices and theory. The XYX Lab operates at the intersection of gender, identity, urban space and advocacy. This presentation will explore a range of projects that bring together planners, policy makers, local government and stakeholders to make tangible the experiences of underrepresented communities in urban space and planning. 

Associate Professor Jess Berry will present the work of Monash University's Design Research Labs. Through collaborative projects our design researchers are tackling social, sustainability and health issues that have applied outcomes and impact. Working with diverse communities and cultures, the work of the XYX Lab and Mobility Design Lab aims for greater sustainability, understanding and equity to transform cities in all of their complexity. Taking an integrated approach to human health, the Design Health Collab works with stakeholders to create safer, more efficient and more comfortable environments and health systems. The Emerging Technologies Research Lab undertakes visionary and speculative research that considers not only what technologies can do, but what they make possible.
