The Routledge Companion to Design Research

EDITORS: Paul A. Rodgers & Joyce Yee.

The Routledge Companion to Design Research offers a comprehensive examination of design research, celebrating the plurality of design research and the wide range of conceptual, methodological, technological and theoretical approaches evident in contemporary design research.

Analysing Design Thinking: Studies of Cross Cultural Co-Creation

EDITORS: Bo T. Christensen, Linden J. Ball & Kim Halskov.

This book adds an entirely new dimension to available literature in the field of design studies; the shared video-based dataset is unique and rich and the selected papers demonstrate a wide range of analytic techniques that generate distinct yet complementary insights.

About: Designing

EDITED BY: Janet McDonnell & Peter Lloyd

The twenty-one contributions to About: Designing draw on a rich variety of methodological positions, research backgrounds and design disciplines including architecture, product design, engineering, applied linguistics, communication studies, cognitive psychology, and discourse studies.

Design Studies

Design Studies is a leading international academic journal focused on developing understanding of design processes. It studies design activity across all domains of application, including engineering and product design, architectural and urban design, computer artefacts and systems design. It therefore provides an interdisciplinary forum for the analysis, development and discussion of fundamental aspects of design activity, from cognition and methodology to values and philosophy.

International Journal of Design

The International Journal of Design is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal devoted to publishing research papers in all fields of design, including industrial design, visual communication design, interface design, animation and game design, architectural design, urban design, and other design related fields.

CoDesign: International Journal of CoCreation in Design and the Arts

CoDesign is inclusive, encompassing collaborative, co-operative, concurrent, human-centred, participatory, socio-technical and community design among others. Research in any design domain concerned specifically with the nature of collaboration design is of relevance to the Journal.

AIEDAM: Artificial Intelligence for Engineering Design, Analysis and Manufacturing.

The journal publishes original articles about significant AI theory and applications based on the most up-to-date research in all branches and phases of engineering. Suitable topics include: analysis and evaluation; selection; configuration and design; manufacturing and assembly; and concurrent engineering. Specifically, the journal is interested in the use of AI in planning, design, analysis, simulation, qualitative reasoning, spatial reasoning and graphics, manufacturing, assembly, process planning, scheduling, numerical analysis, optimization, distributed systems, multi-agent applications, cooperation, cognitive modeling, learning and creativity. AI EDAM is also interested in original, major applications of state-of-the-art knowledge-based techniques to important engineering problems.

Organisations

Design Research Society (UK)
The Design Research Society (DRS) is a learned society committed to promoting and developing design research. It is the longest established, multi-disciplinary worldwide society for the design research community. The Design Research Society was founded in the UK in 1966. The origins of the Society lie in the Conference on Design Methods, held in London in 1962, which enabled a core of people to be identified who shared interests in new approaches to the process of designing.

The Design Society (US)
The Design Society is an international non-governmental, non-profit making organisation whose members share a common interest in design. It strives to contribute to a broad and established understanding of all aspects of design, and to promote the use of results and knowledge for the good of humanity.

The Design & Emotion Society (EU)
D&E was established in 1999 as an international network of researchers, designers and companies sharing an interest in experience driven design. The network is used to exchange insights, research, tools and methods that support the involvement of emotional experience in product design.

CUMULUS International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design & Media

Cumulus is the only global association to serve art and design education and research. It is a forum for partnership and transfer of knowledge and best practices. Cumulus consists currently of 257 members from 54 countries.

DESIGN INSTITUTE OF AUSTRALIA (AU)

Australia’s peak industry body for professional design, the DIA represents Australian design and designers both domestically and internationally. THE DIA help Australia’s professional designers to succeed in business and to enjoy their working lives, while collectively growing Australia’s reputation as a Design Nation.

AGDA - AUSTRALIAN GRAPHIC DESIGN ASSOCIATION

AGDA is the peak national organisation representing the Australian communication design industry. With members distributed throughout the creative, visual communications, applied design and technology sectors, it is dedicated to advancing the profession through an interrelated program of local, national and international activities in education, advocacy and professional development. Its core purpose is the constant development and championing of the professional standing and creative excellence of the Australian design industry.
